Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from Doha as he confirms his plans to play Indian Wells.
The Spaniard has only played one tournament so far this season as he suffered a setback to his comeback in Brisbane.
Having beaten Dominic Thiem in the opening round, Nadal was defeated by Jordan Thompson in the second round which resulted in the 22-time Grand Slam champion withdrawing from the Australian Open.
Now having previously stated that he was planning to play Doha, Nadal has now confirmed his withdrawal from the Qatar Open.
However in more positive news Nadal has confirmed that he is set to play the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells.
Speaking ahead of his withdrawal announcement from Doha spoke about the discomfort he had been suffering and his plans to play in America, “I have had some discomfort in recent weeks and I am a little bit on the limit,” Nadal was quoted by Sportskeeda as saying.
“At this point, every hit I take, every injury, is a setback not only in tennis and physically, but also mentally. I trust 100% to be in Indian Wells, it is a very special tournament for me. I don’t know if it will be the last time I am going to play it, but there are chances yes, so I would like to be in Indian Wells.”
The tournament in Indian Wells begins on the 6th of March with Nadal being a three-time former champion in California.
