Netherlands will host Switzerland in the Davis Cup Play-Off tie at the Martini Plaza in Groningen this weekend in their Davis Cup match between these two teams since 2015.

Dutch captain Paul Haaruis led the Dutch team to last year’s Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. The Netherlands was beaten by eventual champions Italy in the quarter finals.

The “Oranje” team came through a tough tie in the Qualifiers against Slovakia at the same venue where they will play against Switzerland next weekend. T

The Dutch team beat Finland and the USA in Split to secure their spot in the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. Jannik Sinner won singles and doubles matches to seal the tie for Italy in the quarter final against the Netherlands.

Tallon Griekspoor will lead the Dutch team. The Dutch player claimed decisive wins over Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori and USA’s Frances Tiafoe in the Group Stage before losing to this year’s Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner in the Finals in Malaga.

Griekspoor scored seven wins in Davis Cup competitions and reached a career-high of number 21 last November. The Dutch player upset Tatlor Fritz to achieve his first career top 10 win to reach his first ATP 500 final, where he lost to Dan Evans. Last year he then reached the quarter finals in Astana and Stockolm and the third round of a Masters 1000 for the first time in his career in Paris Bercy.

The Swiss team will be led by Leandro Riedl and Marc-Andrea Huesler. Riedl played against Great Britain’s Andy Murray in last year’s Group Stage Finals in Manchester and lost 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 6-4. Riedl won back-to-back titles in Oeiras and Ottignies Louvain La Neuve beating Borna Coric. Huesler won the Sofia Open in 2022. Paul Haaruis: “The key moment was when Jannik Sinner landed in Malaga. I think that’s where it went wrong for us. He just played very well, singles and doubles. We knew he was on fire and he showed it also in doubles, and he took the lead. He was serving very good. He made a lot of returns, and every second shot was just so strong. Overall, we take a lot from our performances in the Davis Cup, but Jannik was just too strong for us on the day”.
