Jelena Ostapenko saves one match point to beat Clara Tauson in Linz

Jelena Ostapenko came back from one set down to beat Danish qualifier Clara Tauson 3-6 6-4 7-6 (9-7) in 2 hours and 21 minutes in the second round of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz. 

Tauson raced out to a 5-1 lead with two breaks in the first set. Ostapenko pulled one of the two breaks of serve in the eighth game for 3-5, but Tauson earned her third break to win the first set 6-3. 

Ostapenko, who was playing her first match since losing the Australian Open doubles final last Sunday, went down 1-4 in the second set but she came back by winning five consecutive games with two breaks of serve to clinch the second set 6-4. 

Tauson held a match point as she was serving for the match at 5-3 in the third set, but Ostapenko pulled back on serve with a backhand winner to draw level to 5-5.  Ostapenko converted her third match point with a forehand to win the tie-break 9-7. Ostapenko will take on British qualifier Jodie Burrage in the quarter final. 

Defending champion Anastasia Potapova saved two match points in the tie-break of the second set to beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto 2-6 7-6 (11-9) 7-5 in 2 hours and 54 minutes. 

Cocciaretto broke twice in the third and seventh games to win the first set 6-2. The Italian player went up a 2-0 lead with a break in the first game and earned a double break point in the seventh game, but Potapova saved it before breaking serve in the eighth game to draw level to 4-4. Potapova saved two match points in the tie-break at 6-7 and 7-8 and won the final two points to clinch the tie-break 11-9. 

Potapova saved four break points in a 22-point second game of the third set. The Russian player broke serve in the ninth game to take a 5-4 lead. Cocciaretto saved three match points in the 10th game before breaking serve to draw level to 5-5. Potapova broke serve in the 11th game and sealed the win on her fourth match point. 

Elise Mertens, who won the Australian Open doubles title, cruised past Lucia Bronzetti 6-1 6-3. Mertens broke three times to win the first set 6-1. The Belgian player broke serve at 15 in the sixth game to take a 4-2. Bronzetti broke straight back in the seventh game for 3-4, but Mertens broke for the second time to seal the second set 6-3.
