The ongoing changes in Holger Rune’s team are continuing after the Dane confirmed that his mother will now only accompany him to selected tournaments.

During a recent interview with TV2, Rune said he believes it is ‘healthy’ that the two were not together at every event. Anke Rune is her son’s manager and was also in charge of his press arrangements until recently. Rune’s media interactions are now managed by IMG.

Questions concerning Anke’s presence started this week in Rotterdam when she was not seen in Rune’s player’s box. She also didn’t attend the UTS event in Oslo that was held last weekend.

“It’s a bit random. She’s going to be there at some tournaments and not be there (at others). She is still on the phone a lot, and we talk both before games and after games. So she is a huge part of my team and I love having her by my side.” Said Rune.
“It’s different, of course, but I think it’s healthy that we run some tournaments together, and some we don’t.” He added.

Since the start of this season, the 20-year-old has stopped working with Roger Federer’s former mentor Severin Luthi and Boris Becker after relatively short stints with both of them. He is now coached by fellow countryman Kenneth Carlsen.

On the court, Rune suffered a shock exit from the Rotterdam Open on Thursday after losing in three sets to Kazkhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko in the second round. It is the second tournament this year that he has failed to win back-to-back matches after the Australian Open. However, he reached the final of the Brisbane International and was a semi-finalist in Montpellier before retiring due to a minor injury issue.

“I think it was a bit of an up-and-down match. I found a good level in the second set that I feel I can build on.” He said following his loss to Shevchenko.
“We started working really well this week again. So I think that Brisbane has been a good week, and I think that this has been a really good week, even if you can’t see it from the result.”

Rune will next travel to Mexico to play in the Los Cabos Open.
