Alexander Bublik claimed a new historic milestone en route to beating Borna Coric 5-7 6-2 6-3 in the Montpellier final.

Bublik became the first ATP player in history to win an ATP title having dropped the first set in all of his matches.

In his fourth consecutive match, Bublik lost the opening set as Coric recovered from a 4-1 deficit to claim the opening set 7-5.

However the Kazakh played a flawless next two sets to complete the comeback and claim the title in Montpellier.

Speaking after the match Bublik spoke about his emotions as he claimed his fourth ATP title, “I was on the verge of losing in my opening round, now here I am standing with the title,” Bublik told the ATP website.

“Thank you to the crowd for supporting me throughout the week. I’ve seen all these great [former] champions out there, and my face is [among them] in the stadium [because of 2022]. Maybe if I continue playing like this, I will have more of my pictures here, so I’m really happy.”

The title also means that Bublik will reach a new career-high ranking of 23 in the world on Monday as he produced a comeback in all four of his matches in Montpellier.
