Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos beat Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden 7-5 6-4 after 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach the championships match of the doubles tournament for the first time as a team of the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time.
With this win Granollers and Zeballos have kept their hopes of ending the season at world number 1 in the Doubles ATP Ranking.
Granollers and Zeballos are making their fourth appearance as a team at the Nitto ATP Finals. They lost two semifinals at the end-of-year tournament.
The Spanish and Argentine player saved a break point in the eighth game before breaking serve in the 11th game to close out the first set 7-5. They converted their second break point in the third game of the to take a 2-1 lead and sealed the win on their first match point.
They will face either defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury or fourth seeds Santiago Gonzales and Edouard Roger Vasselin.
“We are very happy. It is our third semifinal here at the Finals and we are happy to be in the final this time. We will try to enjoy the match and play our best tennis”, said Granollers.
Granollers and Zeballos will end the season in first place if they win the tournament. “We tried to think that every match was a final because every match was against a great team. We tried to be positive and offensive and it is working so far, so we will try to do the same tomorrow”, said Zeballos.
