Grigor Dimitrov is into his second career Masters 1000 final after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-7(1) 7-6(3) in Paris.

The Bulgarian held his nerve as he reached his first Masters 1000 final for six years as he defeated Tsitsipas.

It was a hard-fought win that means Dimitrov could rise to world number 12 if he wins the title but guarantees his place back into the world’s top 15.

After the win Dimitrov explained his emotions after defeating Tsitsipas, “There were no tears but I got very emotional,” Dimitrov told the ATP website.

“I am just living in the moment right now. It has been a funny road of late, but each win means more and more to me. I am just happy I was able to get through that match in such a manner.

“After that second set, especially the tie-break, it was getting very tricky again. 15/40 down in the third again and I was just thinking it can’t keep going like this, so I have to change something. In order to beat someone like him I just had to step through. That is the only thing I could have done.

“Throughout the match I felt I was doing a lot of good things and in the middle of the second [set] he picked up his game and in the end I waited for the tie-break.”

Dimitrov will now look to win his first title since the Nitto ATP Finals in 2017 and will search for an eighth singles title of his career.

Meanwhile Tsitsipas will now focus his attention on the Nitto ATP Finals where he will compete there for a fifth consecutive year.
