Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova earned Czech Republic a 2-0 lead over Switzerland on the inaugural day of the Billie Jean King Cup in Seville.
Noskova beat fellow 18-year-old Celine Naef 7-6 (7-2) 4-6 6-4. Noskova converted his second break point in the second game to take a 3-0 lead. Naef broke back in the seventh game and held serve in the eighth game to draw level to 4-4. Naef started the tie-break with an early mini-break. Noskova won seven of the next eight points with three mini-breaks to claim the tie-break 7-2. Noskova came back by winning the second set 6-4 with a break in the 10th game. Noskova saved four break points to hold serve in the second game of the third set. Naef won three consecutive games to open up a 4-1 lead. Noskova came back by winning five games with two breaks to win the third set 6-4.
“This is something I will remember forever. I am just so happy that I had the chance to play my first Billie Jean King Cup. It was a long and tough match. I trailed 1-4, but I overcame the score in the third set and I finished the match my way, which is the most important thing”, said Noskova.
Bouzkova rallied from one break down in the first set to beat Viktorija Golubic 6-4 6-4.
Golubic earned an early break at love to open up a 2-0 lead. Bouzkova broke back in the sixth game to draw level to 2-2. Golubic converted his fourth break point in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. Bouzkova won the final three games with two breaks of serve to win the first set 6-4. Both players went on serve until the 10thgame when Golubic broke serve on his first match point to win the second set 6-4.
Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova beat Viktorija Golubic and Jil Techman 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 in the doubles match.
