Andy Murray is into the second round in Basel after a tough win over Yannick Hanfmann, 7-5 6-4.
Murray entered the match on a three match losing streak but broke his losing run with a straight sets win over the in-form German.
The world number 40 had to work hard for the win though as the first set lasted 84 minutes.
However the Brit was too consistent for the powerful Hanfmann as he wrapped up victory in straight sets.
After the match Murray described the match as tough but was happy to win, “Happy to come through,” Murray told the ATP website.
“He’s had a brilliant year and has been playing very well, so it’s a good result. It was tough. The first four or five games were something like 45 minutes.
“I don’t remember having that really before, it was ridiculous. And then had a chance at the end of the first set, didn’t get it and just managed to sneak a break at the end. Up again in the second, couldn’t quite finish it, but did well to respond and get the break at the end. Played a great point obviously on the match point to finish.”
A much needed win for Murray as he looks to end the season strongly and next for the Brit is either eighth seed Sebastian Korda or Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
In other results there were wins for Sebastian Baez and Botic Van De Zandschulp over Christopher O’Connell and Roberto Bautista Agut respectively.
While Jan-Lennard Stuff sealed a straight sets victory over Christopher Eubanks.
