Madison Keys produced a dominant display as she dismantled Jessica Pegula 6-1 6-3 to reach the US Open quarter-finals.
The former finalist took advantage of the favourable indoor conditions as she moved into the final eight in New York.
Now Keys awaits Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the quarter-finals.
It was a lightening quick start for Keys who dictated play from the baseline with her big forehand as she started the match with a 3-0 lead.
Pegula was a frustrated figure throughout the match as she never really got going and lacked consistent aggression to really test Keys’ overall game.
The third seed held in the fourth game but that was the only game she gained in the opening set as Keys won a mammoth seventh game to break for a second time.
Keys secured the opening set in 28 minutes as Pegula had work to do in the second set.
There was a much better start from Pegula in the second set as she saved break point to hold at the start of the set.
However Keys continued to grow in confidence and a break in the fifth game added to Pegula’s frustrations.
Despite breaking back in the next game, Pegula continued to produce unforced errors as she was broken on a further two occasions as the world number three exited the tournament at the hands of the powerful.
A fine performance from Keys who murdered the ball throughout the match and now has a quarter-final match against Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova to look forward to.
