Iga Swiatek has remained optimistic about maintaining a high energy level when she takes on Jessica Pegula in the Montreal semi-finals.
The world number one has had to battle her way into the last four in Canada as she continues her dominance over the rest of the field.
After dismissing Karolina Pliskova in straight sets, Iga Swiatek has had to endure two consecutive three set matches over Karolina Muchova and Danielle Collins to reach the semi-finals.
It’s been a tough tournament for Swiatek but the Pole admitted she isn’t thinking about her energy levels too much as she looks for a fifth title this season, “It’s (energy) still high. So I wouldn’t worry about that,” Swiatek was quoted by Tennis Infinity as saying.
“For sure tomorrow is going to be a little bit tougher since we have not a lot of time to recover, but physically I’ve been really well prepared. And I’ve never had a situation in my life where I kind of after two longer matches when I didn’t have energy. I think actually the hardest tournament in terms of that was the Australian Open last year, but this tournament I feel good, so it’s fine.
“Today I knew that she can do this again (hit the fastest balls) because I already experienced that in Australian Open, so I wanted to be proactive and be just really intense for her to feel the pressure as well.“
Swiatek’s proactive tennis helped her as she defeated Collins once again to reach the last four in Montreal.
On Saturday, the Pole will meet Jessica Pegula for the seventh time in their career with the world number one leading the head-to-head record 5-2.
