Novak Djokovic is targeting yet more history at Wimbledon this year. The Serbian is seeking a record-equalling eighth title which would also expand his record Grand Slam trophy tally to 24.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz is only the second Spanish man in the Open Era to be the top seed at the tournament after Rafael Nadal. It will only be his third appearance at the tournament but he is quickly finding his footing on the grass and he has recently won the Cinch Championships at Queen’s. Although some would argue that he has a tougher path to the Wimbledon title than favourite Djokovic.

Elsewhere in the men’s draw, there are plenty of intriguing stories. One of those concerns the 2022 runner-up Nick Kyrgios who has only played one match so far this year due to injury. Stefanos Tsitsipas faces a tricky start to his campaign against Dominic Thiem with the winner then potentially playing two-time champion Andy Murray. Finally, will Daniil Medvedev be able to get past the fourth round for the first time in his career?

Saturday at The All England Club saw a new Grand Slam champion be crowned.

Marketa Vrondrousova stunned Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4, to become the first unseeded women’s champion in history. The Czech’s stunning run comes 12 months after she was sidelined from the tournament due to wrist surgery. What is even more remarkable is the fact that she had only ever won two Tour-level matches on the grass before this year.

Meanwhile, Jabeur has described her latest loss as the most painful of her career. It is the second year in a row where she has had to settle for runner-up, as well as last year’s US Open. Jabeur produced a series of costly unforced errors which proved pivotal to the outcome of the match. Did nerves got the better of her? She was bidding to become the first African woman to win a major title.
