Jannik Sinner beat Diego Schwartzman 7-5 6-1 6-2 to reach the third round at the All England Club at Wimbledon. Sinner fired 14 aces and won 80% of his first serve points.
Sinner saved a break point in the third game and another chance in the seventh game. The Italian star saved a break point in the 11th game before breaking serve at love in the 12th game.
Sinner broke twice in the fourth and sixth games to win the second set 6-1. The eighth seed earned a break in the third game of the third set to take a 2-1 lead. Schwartzman broke straight back in the fourth game to draw level to 2-2. Sinner won the final four games to seal the third set 6-2.
Sinner ha improved his win-loss record to 34-10 this season. He is third behind Danil Medvedev (42) and Carlos Alcaraz (41) in the ranking of the players who have won more matches in 2023.
Last year Sinner led eventual champion Novak Djokovic tw sts ìs to love before losing the match in five sets.
Sinner will face either Alexander Vukic or Quentin Halys in the third round. “I felt like I was serving very well in important moments. I was trying somehow to play my game. Moving him around is not easy because he is so fast, so I tried to overpower him a little bit. He is a good friend of mine, we play doubles together sometimes and is such a nice man, so it’s always tough to play against a friend”,said Sinner.
