Dominic Thiem and Felix Auger-Aliassime’s opening round clash headlines a strong Halle draw.
Both players are out of confidence after suffering opening round exits at Roland Garros with Thiem losing at a clay court challenger event last week.
Meanwhile Auger-Aliassime hasn’t won back-to-back matches since Indian Wells in March having struggled for fitness and form.
The Austrian currently leads the head-to-head 1-0 after winning at the US Open three years ago, the same tournament Thiem would win his only Grand Slam.
In other big matches, Alexander Zverev will play his first match since losing at the Roland Garros semi-finals when he takes on eighth seed Roberto Bautista Agut.
Bautista Agut is a former semi-finalist at Wimbledon and will be a tough first test for the German on grass.
Meanwhile other big seeds see top seed Daniil Medvedev face a qualifier, second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Gregoire Barrere while fourth seed Jannik Sinner faces Richard Gasquet.
There are also appearances in the draw for last year’s Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios and former Wimbledon semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov.
Kyrgios was convincingly beaten by Yibing Wu in Stuttgart and will look to do better against Lorenzo Sonego in his Halle opener.
While Shapovalov will take on Lloyd Harris in his opening match as he looks to rediscover his form.
