Carlos Alcaraz says his rapid rise over the past couple of years is only the start as the Spaniard sets his sights on becoming one of the best in history.

Alcaraz, who will turn 20 on Friday, has already won nine Tour titles so far in his career which includes three Masters 1000 events and last year’s US Open. He is the youngest player in history to have finished a season at world No.1 on the ATP Pepperstone Rankings, as well as the youngest to beat both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the same tournament. Overall, he has won 117 out of 150 Tour matches played so far in his career.

“I want to be one of the best tennis players in history,” Alcaraz said following his quarter-final win over Karen Khachanov at the Madrid Open.
“I’m ambitious. I don’t want to lose — even at marbles. I’m not going to get tired of winning, I live from day to day, I love playing tennis so I’m not afraid that I’ll get tired of winning because that’s not going to happen.”

Alcaraz is just two wins away from winning a second consecutive Madrid title. So far this season he has recorded 17 wins on the clay which is more than any other player on the ATP Tour. On the surface he won titles in Buenos Aires in February and Barcelona last month, Alcaraz has also had success on the hardcourts this year, winning the Indian Wells Masters.

After already establishing himself as one of the best in the world, Alcaraz’s ‘big dream’ is to go even further and become an all-time great. He admits it is a big challenge but one he is prepared to tackle.

“I am proud that in such a short time I have established myself on the circuit with incredible moments, which have made me learn and grow very quickly,” he said of his career so far.
“My dream in tennis right now is to become one of the best players in history. I know it’s a big dream — probably too big. But you have to dream and think big.”

In the Spanish capital, Alcaraz will play Borna Coric in his semi-final match on Friday. Coric booked his place in the last four by defeating Germany’s Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-3. It will be the first time the two players have met on the Tour.

“He’s absolutely an unbelievable player in unbelievable shape at the moment as well,” Coric said of Alcaraz following his match.
“I like to play here in this stadium and it’s going to be a very cool feeling for sure.”

Alcaraz is bidding to become only the second man to win back-to-back Madrid Open titles after Nadal.
