Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from Madrid after suffering a right hand injury and will now leave the world’s top 100 after the tournament.

The Brit pulled out just hours before she was due to face lucky loser Viktoriya Tomova in her opening round match.

The withdrawal was confirmed by the tournament as Raducanu is now set to leave the world’s top 100 for the first time since winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open a couple of years ago.

Raducanu hasn’t had the best start to the year with her best tournament being at Indian Wells where she reached the fourth round.

Now the 20 year-old will hope she is fit for Rome and Roland Garros as Raducanu looks to rectify her ranking before Wimbledon, which starts in the first two weeks of July.

As for Tomova, she will now face fellow lucky loser Julia Grabher in the opening round of Madrid later today.
