Carlos Alcaraz described the feeling of playing a final in Barcelona as ‘special’ after the Spaniard defeated Dan Evans 6-2 6-2.
It was a dominant victory for the top seed, who is yet to drop a set this week in Spain.
Alcaraz’s win means he has the opportunity to become the first back-to-back champion since Rafael Nadal.
Speaking after the match Alcaraz described the feeling of reaching the Barcelona final as ‘special,’ “It’s so special to play a final here in Barcelona, a tournament that I love playing,” Alcaraz told the ATP website.
“I came to watch this tournament when I was really young and I played for this club when I was 11 or 12. I love this club, I love this tournament, and it’s so special to have the chance to lift the trophy here again.”
Standing in Alcaraz’s way of winning a second consecutive title in Barcelona is Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Alcaraz said that he’s expecting a ‘spicy’ match and admits it will be a difficult test, “I feel really comfortable playing here in Barcelona and [I am] playing well,” Alcaraz explained.
“Stefanos as well is playing great matches. Last year we had a spicy match, let’s say. I know he’s a really nice guy off the court, so I’m going to try to forget everything that has happened in the matches before, try to focus on my game tomorrow, and try to get the win.”
Heading into the match Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 3-0 which includes a win for the Spaniard at last year’s quarter-final match in Barcelona.
