Florida senator Rick Scott has claimed that Novak Djokovic will be unable to compete at Indian Wells and Miami despite applying for an exemption.
This comes as Djokovic was knocked out of Dubai by Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals and faces a long wait to see where his next tournament will be.
The world number one was unable to compete in America last year due to his vaccination status and it looks like a similar fate awaits him this year.
Speaking at a press conference in Serbia Djokovic was hopeful about his chances of competing in America, “Everything is in process and I’m really thankful to Indian Wells and Miami for their support, publicly, and they would like me to be able to play,” Djokovic was quoted as saying by Sky Sports before travelling to Dubai.
“I’m really thankful for that because I have a big desire to play because I haven’t played there for several years so I’m looking forward to hopefully a positive decision coming sometime soon. It’s not in my hands so that’s all I can say.”
However it seems Djokovic’s hopes have now vanished as Florida senator Rick Scott has claimed that the Serb’s vaccine waiver attempts have been denied.
Earlier in the day the USTA made a public appeal for Djokovic to play in the upcoming tournaments.
The BNP Paribas Open takes place on the 8th of March while the Miami Open takes place on the 21st of March.
Should Djokovic miss the events in America, then the Serb’s next tournament will be in Monte-Carlo on the 9th of April.
