Cameron Norrie says he is looking to make further improvements to his game ahead of his first clay event of the season.

The British No.1 is the second seed at this week’s Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. It is only the second time he has played at the ATP 250 event and the first since 2019 when he lost in the second round of qualifying. Since then, Norrie has shot up the rankings and was ranked as high as No.8 last year. He has won four Tour titles since 2021 and reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon last July.

This season has begun with a series of solid results for Norrie who has won five out of his last seven matches played on the ATP Tour. He reached the final of the ASB Classic in New Zealand before losing to Richard Gasquet. Then he reached the third round of the Australian Open. Norrie has also played in the Davis Cup where he won both of his singles matches to guide Britain to victory over Colombia.

“This week I want to continue preparing on clay, stay patient and take it day by day. I feel that many Latin American tennis players play very well here,” Punto de Break quoted the 27-year-old as saying during his press conference in Argentina.
“I will have to play at my best level to have a chance of winning. It usually takes me longer to find my optimal rhythm on clay, so I have to be patient with myself and keep the basics of my tennis good.”

Despite Norrie’s success on the Tour, he is hungry for more. He is coached by Facundo Lugones who has been by his side since 2017. Lugones and Norrie were teammates during their time at Texas Christian University, playing for the TCU Horned Frogs men’s tennis team.

“My results have been better. It hasn’t changed too much,” he said.
“I keep trying to improve my tennis, my game on clay. I try to work as hard as I can. I want to keep going for more and improve my ranking and my game. I feel more mature on the circuit. When I last played here (at the Argentina Open) I was in the preliminary phase and I had hardly any experience.”

Norrie has a bye in the first round and will open up his campaign against either wildcard Facundo Diaz Acosta or Federico Coria. The draw is headed by Carlos Alcaraz who is playing in his first tournament of the year following injury.
