Ons Jabeur is confident that she will win a Grand Slam in 2023 as she prepares to open up her season in Adelaide.
The Tunisian came close last season after reaching two Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and the US Open.
However Jabeur came up short against Elena Rybakina and world number one Iga Swiatek respectively as she aimed to create Arab tennis history.
Now the current world number two believes that 2023 will be her time to win a Grand Slam as she looks to narrow the gap on Swiatek, “I was ready to win this year (2022), but it didn’t happen,” Jabeur was quoted as saying by The Arab Weekly.
“I’m doing everything possible to win a Grand Slam. I’m just going to go for it. This year, 2023, is about just being free and playing my game. I’m glad I got the experience from two finals in a Grand Slam.”
Jabeur seems more determined than ever before to realise her Grand Slam dream as she looks to pick up where she left off last season.
The Tunisian also spoke about how conditions should suit her in Australia and how hard she has been working in the off-season, “We’ve worked really hard to improve a lot of things, we are more aware of my game,” Jabeur claimed.
“I feel like this year is going to be very special for me. I gave it all, I put in the hard work during practices, and I’m hitting the ball well. I’m from Tunisia and used to the hot weather — that’s a good thing.
“The most important thing is to be ready, to hydrate better and do (your) routine for hot weather.”
Jabeur will look to make a real impact at the Australian Open where she has no points to defend after no playing there last season.
Before thinking about the Australian Open, Jabeur competes in Adelaide where she is the top seed this week.
First up for Jabeur will be either Sorana Cirstea or Viktorija Golubic before potentially facing Elena Rybakina or Danielle Collins in the quarter-finals.
