Naomi Osaka has announced that she is pregnant and that she will not return to tennis until 2024.
There had been questions over why the two-time former champion had withdrawn from this year’s Australian Open.
Osaka had showed no signs of training for the first Grand Slam of the season in Melbourne which takes place on the 16th of January.
However finally today we now know the reasons for Osaka’s withdrawal as she explained on social media that she is pregnant.
Also in the post Osaka said that the last year has been challenging and that she won’t return to the tour until 2024.
Osaka was last seen at the tournament in Tokyo in her home country where she withdrew from her second round match against Beatriz Haddad Maia.
The Japanese star will now have motherhood to enjoy before returning to the court to resume her tennis career.
At the moment Osaka is ranked 47 in the world and is likely to keep that ranking to enter tournaments when she comes back to tennis.
