Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury beat Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara 7-5 6-4 in 73 minutes to improve to 2-0 in Red Group of the doubles tournament at the Nitto ATP Finals at the Pala Alpitour in Turin. Ram and Salisbury had beaten Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.
The US and British team broke serve in the 11th game to win the first set 7-5. They won 88 percent of their first service points and earned their second break of the match in the eighth game to seal the second set 6-4.
“I am really happy to get the win. They are a tough team, we have lost to them twice this year. We are happy with everything we did out there. They are a strong serving team, did not have many chances, but we stuck in there and took the chance we had. We were good on serve as well”, said Salisbury.
Ram and Salisbury will secure their spot in the semifinal if they beat Marcelo Arevalo and Jean Julien Rojer in their third round robin match.
Ram and Salisbury won two Masters 1000 titles in Monte-Carlo and Cincinnati and the US Open.Glasspool and Heliovaara are 1-1 in the Red Group and will play against Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in their third round robin match.
