Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury rallied from one set down to beat Marcelo Arevalo and Jean Julien Rojer 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 10-5 reaching the semifinals at the Nitto ATP Finals at the Pala Alpitour in Turin.
Arevalo and Rojer, who needed a straight-set win to reach the semifinal, earned their only break in the fourth game to seal the first set 6-3.
The second set went on serve en route to the tie-break. Ram and Salisbury went up a mini-break, but Arevalo and Ram pulled back on serve both times, but Ram and Salisbury won the final two points to close out the tie-break 7-4.
Ram and Salisbury raced out to a 6-1 lead with two mini-breaks in the Match tie-break. Arevalo and Rojer pulled one break back, but Ram and Salisbury earned their mini-break and sealed the win on their first match point.
“It was pretty tense. It is not often that you are in those. It is not often that you are in those kind of situations where you just need to win a set to advance. I think we did a really good job handling it and got better as the match went on”, said Ram. “There was a lot of pressure. In some ways it is almost better that you know you have to know the match. I thought they played really well. We lost the first set, but we knew we had to get back at it. We were not playing our best tennis, but we fought hard and we are happy with how we managed to get through it”, said Salisbury.
