Sixth seeds Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara cruised past Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-0 6-4 after 59 minutes to book their spot in the semifinals on the doubles tournament at the Nitto ATP Finals at the Pala Alpitour in Turin. Glasspool and Heliovaara are the second team to reach the semifinal, joining Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.
Glasspool and Heliovaara broke three times to take a bagel win in the first set. The British and Finnish doubles team saved a break point in the seventh game before earning a break in the 10th game to seal the second set 6-4.
“It feels very good. You saw the celebrations at the end. We played an amazing match. I don’t think we could have played any better in the first set and then we kept going. What a dream. It just shows how much hard work we have put in. It is really nice to have it pay off as it doesn’t always pay off. It is amazing to be able our best our best stuff on the biggest stage”, said Glasspool.
Glasspool and Helovaara, who are making their debut at the ATP Finals this weekend, end the Round-robin group with a 2-1 record. Rajeev Ram and and Joe Salisbury will take on Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Rojer in the third Red Group match.Ram and Salisbury are 2-0 after their wins in their two matches. They qualify for the semifinals if they win a set against Arevalo and Rojer.
