Novak Djokovic has clinched his place at the Nitto ATP Finals with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas to claim the Astana title.
The title was Djokovic’s 90th of his career and his second title in the space of two weeks after winning in Tel-Aviv last week.
It was a 75 minute serving masterclass with the Serb only losing seven points on serve with Tsitsipas unable to break down the former world number one.
As a result of his title in Kazakhstan, Djokovic has now qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin having won Wimbledon and now unable to finish below 20th position in the Race Rankings.
Speaking to the ATP website Djokovic always dreamed about winning so many titles and has been very happy with his hunger to progress in recent weeks, “I always hoped that I would be going to have a great career,” Djokovic admitted.
“Obviously, didn’t know the amount of finals I was going to play, the amount of tournaments I was going to win, but my intention was always to reach the highest heights in our sport.
“I’m just very grateful and blessed to be able to play this well at this stage of my life. You know, 35 is not 25. But I think the experience, probably, in these kinds of matches and big occasions helps as well to approach mentally in the right way.
“I could not ask for a better re-start of the season. I’m super-pumped and motivated to end the season as well as I have done these past couple of weeks.”
Djokovic now joins Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the season-ending finale with three spots left.
The Nitto ATP Finals will start on the 13th of November with Djokovic aiming to gain more momentum at the Masters 1000 event in Paris on the 31st of October.
