Danish Next Gen Holger Rune beat Thiago Monteiro 7-5 6-2 to reach the second round at the Stockolm Open on his debut at this ATP 250 tournament.
Rune did not face a break point and won five of his six games from 4-5 down in the first set with two breaks in the 11th game of the first set and in the third game of the second set. He earned his third break in the seventh game of the second set before serving out the win at love. He won 86% of his first serve points.
Maxime Cressy came back from one set down to beat Ilya Ivashka 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 setting up a second round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Ivashka converted his third break point in the third game and held his next service games to close out the first set 6-4. Ivashka saved a total of five break points in the second and sixth games of the second set. Both players went on serve en route to the tie-break. Ivashka earned a mini-break to take a 3-1 lead. Cressy won three of the next four points with two mini-breaks to win the tie-break 7-5.
Cressy saved three break points in the second game of the third set. Both players went on serve until the ninth game when Cressy converted his second break point to seal the decider 6-4.
Aslan Karatsev cruised past Lukas Rosol 6-3 6-2 setting up a second round match against Cameron Norrie.
