Serena Williams is still hopeful of being involved in tennis in the future after ending her on-court career at the US Open.

It was an emotional evening for the 23-time Grand Slam champion as her on-court career ended after 25 years of playing the sport.

Williams lost to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the US Open 7-5 6-7(4) 6-1 in what was her last match of her career.

Serena thanked the fans, her family and everyone involved in her career in what was an emotional evening.

However in her press conference Williams didn’t rule out the possibility of returning the sport and said that she would love to be involved in Tennis in the future, “I’ve come a long way since last year at Wimbledon. Just not sure if that was my last moment or not. Making it a different moment I think is
much better,”
Williams surprisingly stated.

“Yeah, and it takes a lot of work to get here. Clearly I’m still capable. It takes a lot more than that. I’m ready to, like, be a mom, explore a different version of Serena. Technically in the world I’m still super young, so I want to have a little bit of a life while I’m still walking.

“For me, tennis has been such a huge part of my life, I can’t imagine not being involved in tennis. I don’t know what that involvement is yet. But I feel like it’s provided me with so many opportunities. Through that, it’s provided other people with so many amazing opportunities.

“I think it means so much to me in my life, and I’ve had so many amazing moments, that I don’t see a future without it. What’s my involvement? I have no idea. I think I’ll be involved in some way or shape.”

It’s clear Williams’ love with the sport is everlasting as she has aims to be back in some capacity.

For now though the American is evolving away from the sport to focus on life as a mother and explore other opportunities outside the world of Tennis.
