Lorenzo Sonego beat Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 without facing nny break points to reach the fifth ATP Tour final of his career at the Moselle Open in Metz.
Sonego claimed the tie-break of the first set before converting his only break point of the match in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead in the second set. The Italian player held on his next service games to close out the match after 99 minutes.
Sonego now leads 3-2 in his five head-to-head matches against Hurkacz. The Italian player has moved up to world number 52 in the ATP Ranking. This week he beat Aslan Karatsev, three-time champion Gilles Simon and Sebastian Korda to advance to the semifinal without dropping a set.
Sonego set up a final against Alexander Bublik, who reached his second title match of the season after Stan Wawrinka was forced to withdraw from the match after three games. “I am really happy, because this is my first final this year. I have played so well day after day. I am really happy for that. Hubert is a great player and it’s very tough to return the ball, but today I played so well and I enjoyed every moment on court”,said Snnego.
