Jenson Brooksby downed six-time champion John Isner 3-6 6-1 6-4 to reach the semi-finals in Atlanta.

The talented American youngster hasn’t had the best of seasons so far but is returning to his favourite time of year on the US hard courts.

Brooksby backed that up with another great win this time over six-time champion John Isner in Atlanta.

Despite dropping the opening set, Brooksby continued to implement his athletic style of play from the baseline as he broke on five occasions.

A late resurgence was made by Isner but it was too late as Brooksby held his nerve to seal victory and a place in the last four.

After the match Brooksby spoke about the match and how pleased he is of his level this week, “I’ve had a few focused matches now,” Brooksby admitted to the ATP website.

“He came out really strong and he’s a good competitor. I knew it would be a battle and I’m quite pleased with how I was able to turn it around.”

Brooksby has set up an all-American semi-final with Frances Tiafoe after he defeated last year’s finalist Brandon Nakashima 6-4 6-2.

Both players will look to make their second final of the season with Brooksby reaching the Dallas final earlier in the year while Tiafoe reached the final in Estoril.

The other semi-final will see Alex De Minaur take on Ilya Ivashka as De Minaur struggled past the heat and Adrian Mannarino in three sets.

The Australian dropped the opening set 6-4 before coming back to win the next two sets 6-3 6-0.

After the match the third seed spoke about the heat and why the match was so difficult, “It’s not called Hotlanta for nothing, that’s for sure,” De Minaur told the ATP website.

“It’s definitely a hot one today. I had to absolutely battle, but jeez it feels good to get on top in these types of matches. Very proud of myself, very proud of my attitude. I didn’t give in and managed to fight until the end. I’m happy to live another day.”

De Minaur will play Ivashka who defeated Tommy Paul in three sets. The duo have never met on the main tour however De Minaur did win their Challenger tour encounter in Nottingham four years ago.
