A leading celebrity publication says they have received confirmation that Rafal Nadal’s wife Mery is pregnant with their first child.

Hola Magazine has published a series of photos of the couple recently relaxing in Mallorca which they say shows Mery is pregnant. On the front cover of their magazine this week Nadal and Mery are pictured along with the caption ‘Rafael Nadal and Mery are expecting their first child.’ No further information has been given and is unknown as to how far along they are in the pregnancy.

Earlier this year the former world No.1 spoke openly about his desire to have children in the near future. Although he has previously hinted that he wanted to do so after his retirement from the sport. Nadal is 36-years-old and is the third-oldest player in the current top 100 on the ATP Tour after John Isner and Roger Federer.

“I would love to have children: boys, girls… I’m a person who loves kids and I’m a family guy,” The Sun newspaper has quoted Nadal as previously saying.
“But also I tell you that the reality is, the years keep passing, I would like to start to do all of this when my sporting life determines it.”
“I think it’s also above all about looking after the kids. I don’t know if it [travelling throughout the year and having children] is ideal.” He added.

Nadal resumed training on Monday as he faces a race against time to be fit for Wimbledon. After winning a record 14th French Open, the Spaniard revealed he only managed to play in the tournament with the help of injections into his foot. He suffers from Mueller-Weiss syndrome which is a rare and degenerative disease that causes a deformity of one of the bones in the central part of the foot.

Last week he went to Barcelona to undergo a new treatment on his foot called pulsed radiofrequency stimulation. It is a minimally invasive procedure which involves adjusting the way in which the nerve tissue functions in order to reduce or stop pain in the affected area. His doctor, Angel Ruiz Cotorro, has previously said it is possible that Nadal could have further pulsed radiofrequency treatment if required.

Neither Nadal or his wife are yet to comment on the story published by Hola magazine. The couple got married back in 2019 after being together for 14 years.
