The Montreal native got by his Italian opponent in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals in Madrid.
Felix Auger Aliassime booked his spot in the final eight of the Mutua Madrid Open after beating the number 10 seed Jannik Sinner 6-1, 6-2 in one hour and 19 minutes.
The Canadian served five aces and hit 28 winners while the world number 12 hit 22 unforced errors that the Montreal native dominated from start to finish.
The first three games of the match went on serve with the number eight seed looking for the early break and after a poor service game by the Italian a double fault gave the Canadian the early 3-1 lead.
The world number 10 managed to turn that break into a double break playing some solid tennis from the baseline and from there had no issues serving out the first set.
Auger Aliassime rode the momentum into the beginning of the second set and on his second breakpoint opportunity broke serve early once again to take a 2-0 lead.
At 3-1 the Canadian set up another breakpoint to go up a double break once again with a stunning passing shot and on the following point broke serve with a return forehand winner down the line.
From there the world number 10 served out the match to set up a quaterfinal meeting with the German Alexander Zverev who advanced after his opponent Lorenzo Musetti retired due to injury.
Zverev currently leads the head to head 4-2 with their most recent meeting this past January in the ATP Cup and on that occasion it was the Canadian who got the win in three tight sets.
