Just a few days ago Matteo Berrettini pulled out from the Miami Open owing to a hand problem.
The Wimbledon 2021 finalist got off to a smashing start this season, reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open, but ever since he has been constantly hindered by physical issues, as has constantly happened throughout his career.
He was forced to withdraw in Acapulco due to an abdominal muscle injury after taking the first set 6-4 against Tommy Paul but rapidly going down 1-5 in the second. In Indian Wells his mettle tugged him through the first two rounds against Rune and Harris, but after battling he eventually surrendered 3-6 7-6 4-6 to Kecmanovic in the round of 16.
Providing an update on his health, Berrettini announced in an Instagram post that he underwent a minor operation on his right hand.
“My team and I have been speaking to medical experts since my withdrawal from Miami with a right hand injury. Following multiple scans and assessments we decided a minor operation was the best solution to ensure a full and quick recovery,” Berrettini wrote.
“Earlier today (Wednesday) I had the operation and I’m happy to report it went extremely well. My doctor and team are already discussing plans for me to get back on court. I will provide an update as soon as this plan is finalised. Thanks very much as always for all the support.”
Matteo hopes to be back on court shortly. He is still featured in the Monte Carlo Masters Open entry list. Yet, recovery time is uncertain and caution is always a wise advisor.
