The Romanian only needed an hour and beat her opponent in straight sets only losing three games in the process.

Simona Halep is into the fourth round of the Australian Open after beating Danka Kovinic 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and four minutes hitting 19 winners, serving three aces while her opponent hit 25 unforced errors.

“I feel great that I can play in the fourth round again and I love to play in Australia so maybe that’s why I play so well and it’s always a big challenge to step on the court and give your best so I am really pleased with the way I played and I am looking forward to the next one.”

The first two games of the match went on serve and it was the number 14 seed who earned the first two breakpoints of the match setting them up with a sublime return winner and broke to take a 2-1 lead.

The break of serve didn’t hold as she was broken the very next game but recovered to break right back and this time was able to consolidate to take a double break lead this time with her powerful forehand.

Halep served out the first set in a mere 30 minutes and went right back to work in the second getting the early break to take a 2-0 lead and again turned that break into a double break lead.

The Romanian finished the match strong breaking the world number 98 once again to seal the win and book a match with Alize Cornet of France who needed three sets to beat Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia.

After the win in her on-court interview, Halep was asked how she feels about her game at this point of the tournament.

“I feel more confident now because last year was a tough year so now I just enjoy playing tennis and I am healthy so it’s a good thing I can come and do my best and that is the most important thing.”

Kovinic made history in the match as she is the first player from Montenegro to reach the third round of a grand slam.
