The Canadian was able to get past the American in straight sets on Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Bianca Andreescu is into the third round of the US Open after beating the world number 98 and American Lauren Davis 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 36 minutes in front of a packed crowd with a lot of Canadian support.

“I am super happy that I was able to win it in two sets and it is always good for the body and the mind”.

Andreescu didn’t get off to the start that she wanted as the American put pressure on her serve right from the start and broke her in the opening game of the match.

The Canadian got the break back to make it 2-2 but was broken once again as Davis would take a 4-3 lead but couldn’t consolidate the break and at 5-4, the world number seven broke serve once again to take the first set.

The second set was more of the back and forth we had seen in the first set as the world number 98 broke early to take a 2-1 lead but again failed to hold serve and we witnessed two breaks of serve in a row.

At 3-3, Andreescu was finally able to hold serve and that proved crucial as she went on to serve out the match.

In her post-match on-court interview the Canadian spoke about making adjustments against a player she had never played before.

“I played her in practice but I had a feeling how she would play today based on that and she played exactly how she played in practice and most likely it was going to be a very close match and It was and I am happy I was able to pull it out in two sets”.

Andreescu will next face the lucky loser Greet Minnen of Belgium in the third round.
