France’s Kristina Mladenovic has been slammed with a £5,400 ($7500) fine related to an incident reportedly involving a member of her family.

The Daily Mail and Metro have quoted tournament sources confirming that somebody related to the French tennis star got into a heated argument with a member of staff. It is alleged to have taken place shortly after Mladenovic lost her doubles match alongside Timea Babos. The duo were the second seeds in the draw but fell 6-1, 6-2, to Arina Rodionova and Zarina Diyas in the first round last Thursday.

It is understood that shortly after the defeat a member of Mladenovic’s team tried to arrange private transport back to the hotel. However, they were told this would not be possible and they would have to use the shuttle bus. As a result the unnamed individual was abusive to staff members and security had to step in to resolve the dispute.

Former world No.1 doubles player Mladenovic has experienced a disappointing run at Wimbledon. In the singles tournament she could only win four games against Elena Rybakina in the first round. It is the first time she has lost her opening match at the grass-court major since 2016. Mladenovic was also scheduled to play in the mixed doubles with Nicolas Mahut but they have since withdrawn.

There has been no public comment from Mladenovic regarding the fine.

As for other players in the tournament, French Open finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was fined $3000 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Meanwhile, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas has also been docked the same amount but for coaching during a match. Nick Kyrgios is so far the only one to have been hit with multiple fines. The Australian has been fined $2,500 and $3,000 for audible obscenities.
