Felix Auger Aliassime is into the third round of Wimbledon after beating the Swede Mikael Ymer 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 in two hours and 40 minutes on court number two firing 19 aces and 51 winners in the win.
” It was a long match and there was a lot going on first I had to wait the whole day for the match and then he was a little bit late and I started off well and you need to focus on what you can control and I am really happy because he was playing very good”.
The Swede didn’t get off to the best start as he showed up to the court 15 minutes late and suffered for it as the Canadian would earn two breakpoints right away in the first game of the match and broke to take an early 1-0 with a powerful forehand winner.
That one break was enough for the Montreal native to serve out the first set and take it 6-4 in 30 minutes on the dot.
The second set was a total opposite to the first with the world number 98 holding serve and broke the world number 19 to love and it stayed on serve until 4-2 when the Canadian bounced back and broke right back to go back on serve.
At 5-4 with Auger Aliassime serving to stay in the set Ymer earned two set points and got the crucial break to take the second set and level the match.
The third set stayed on serve until 3-2 when the Stockholm, Sweden resident suffered a scare when he would slip and fall and was down for several minutes.
Eventually the trainer was called and he took a medical timeout but decided to keep going after taking some pain killers from the tournament doctor.
The third set would be decided by a tiebreak and it was the Canadian at 3-2 who got the crucial break once again and served out the third set to take it 7-6 to go up two sets to one.
The Montreal native would take the high of winning the third set and after holding the opening service game of the set went on the attack once again and broke to take an early 2-0 lead.
After that it stayed on serve until 3-1 when the Canadian broke the Swede once again to love and served it out to set up a third round encounter with Nick Krygios.
After the match he spoke about the winning the tiebreaker in the third set that gave him a two sets to one lead.
” It was crucial and in three out of five that third set tiebreak is so important and usually when it’s a third set and one set all it’s really important and it can go either way very fast and one can gain a lot more confidence and be more relaxed and it’s a tricky situation and very stressful but I did well and I handled my nerves very well and I served good in the tiebreak so I can be happy with my performance”.
