Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti seal their spot in the third round at Roland Garros

Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti have joined Matteo Berrettini, Fabio Fognini and Marco Cecchinato in the Roland Garros third round. 

Sinner beat Gianluca Mager in the all-Italian second round match 6-1 7-5 3-6 6-2 after two hours and 21 minutes. 

Sinner broke twice in the fourth and sixth games to win a one-sided first set 6-1. 

Sinner saved two set points on serve at 4-5 in the second set before converting his third break point in the 11th game to closed out the second set 7-5. 

Mager earned his first break in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead with a forehand crosscourt and held on his next service games to close out the third set 6-3. 

Sinner broke serve in the second game of the fourth set to take a 2-0 lead. Mager broke straight back at love in the third game for 1-2, but Sinner broke for the second game from 0-40 down to take a 2-1 lead. Sinner never looked back and held on his next service games to close out the fourth set 6-2. 

Sinner will face Sweden’s Mikael Yimer, who upset local favourite Gael Monfils 6-0 2-6 6-4 6-3. 

Lorenzo Musetti beat Yoshihito Nishioka 7-5 6-3 6-2 after 2 hours and 9 minutes. Musetti broke serve at love to open up a 3-1 lead. Nishioka won four consecutive four consecutive games with two breaks to take a 5-3 lead, but Musetti claimed four consecutive points from 0-30 to break back in the ninth game. Musetti broke again in the 11th game and closed out the first set on his second set point to close out the first set 7-5. 

Musetti earned another break at 1-1 before saving three break-back points to open up a 3-1 lead. Musetti saved another break point at 3-2 before breaking serve in the eighth game to seal the second set 6-3. Musetti saved a break point at 2-2 before winning fourth consecutive games with two breaks in the sixth and eight games to win the third set 6-2.

Musetti has reached two semifinals this year in Acapulco and Lyon, but he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas bot times.

Musetti set up an all-Italian third round against Marco Cecchinato, who beat Australia’s Alex De Minaur 6-4 6-1 3-6 6-1 after 2 hours and 28 minutes. 

Cecchinato went up an early break to take a 2-0 lead, but De Minaur broke straight back in the third game. He saved three break points at 4-4 before breaking serve at 15 to win the first set 6-4. 

Cecchinato won five consecutive games from 1-1 with two breaks in the fourth and sixth games to win the second set 6-1. 

De Minaur broke serve in the sixth game to win the third set 6-3. 

Cecchinato reeled off five consecutive games with two breaks to cruise through to a 6-1 win in the third set.
