Daria Kasatkina upset last year’s Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek 4-6 6-1 6-0 to advance to the quarter finals in Eastbourne. Kasatkina claimed her 13th over a top 10 opponent.
Kasatkina hit two more winners than Swiatek, who made 37 unforced errors. Kasatkina won 11 of 14 points off the Swiatek second serve. Swiatek opened up a 4-1 lead with a break in the second game. Kasatkina broke back in the seventh game for 3-4. Swiatek earned another break in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead, but Kasatkina broke back at love for 4-5. Swiatek sealed the first set 6-4 with a break.
Kasatkina broke three times to take a bagel win in the second set. The Russian star broke twice in the first and fifth games to race out to a 4-1 lead. Kasatkina earned a double match point at 5-1 with a forehand winner and sealed the win on her first opportunity.
Camila Giorgi followed up a win against Karolina Pliskova with a 6-3 4-6 6-2 victory over Shelbly Rogers to advance to the quarter finals in Eastbourne.
Giorgi will face a quarter final match against either Aryna Sabalenka or Alison Riske.
Rogers went up an early break in the first game, but Giorgi broke straight back in the second game. Giorgi broke for the second time in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead and held her next two two service games to win the first set 6-3.
The second set went on serve until the 10th game, when Rogers converted the only break point to win it 6-4 forcing the match to the decider.
Giorgi broke twice in the first and fifth games to win the third set 6-2.
Elena Rybakina beat Elina Svitolina 6-4 7-6 (7-3). Rybakina broke serve in the ninth game at deuce to win the first set 6-4. The Kazakh player went up a set and a break to build up a 6-4 2-1 lead. Svitolina converted her sixth break-back point in the eighth game to draw level to 4-4. Both players traded breaks in the ninth and tenth games en route to the tie-break. Rybakina earned five break points at 6-1 in the tie-break and sealed the win on her third opportunity.
Coco Gauff served for the quarter finals but lost to Anastasija Sevastova 4-6 7-5 6-2.
