Simona Halep has become the latest top name to withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympic Games due to injury.
The former world No.1 has been suffering from a calf injury which she sustained in Rome at the BNL D’Italia against Angelique Kerber. Halep has already missed both the French Open and Wimbledon due to the issue.
Halep has recently travelled to Hamburg last week to try and play in the Bad Homburg Open. However, a day before the tournament got underway she withdrew due to ‘not being ready’ for match play.
She than pulled out of Wimbledon mentioning again her calf injury was still not at 100% and that she wanted to be back at 100% before returning to play.
Before her injury Halep had a decent clay court season, making the round of 16 in Madrid and the semifinals in Stuttgart.
Halep is currently at number three in the world and has two grand slam finals on her resume winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
