The Canadian will play her first clay court event of the season a week before Roland Garros.
Bianca Andreescu has officially arrived in Strasbourg for the International Strasbourg Open which is the final warm up WTA event before the second grand slam of the year next week in Paris, the French Open.
“So far so good other than the weather, it’s been raining a lot, the courts are a bit muggy but I am doing the best I can due to the circumstances and I think it’s the best preparation for French Open”.
The main reason she hasn’t played the last two events in Rome and Madrid is because of a situation she says was weird because she tested negative twice before landing in Madrid and as soon as she landed in the Spanish capital she tested positive.
The next week when planning to play Rome after isolating she was made aware that if she did travel to Italy she would be at risk of being forced to quarantine a second time.
In regards to her health Andreescu confirmed to the media she is in top shape and ready to go after having the last two weeks off to rest and recover especially since her injury in the Miami final.
“I’m doing great, I had a great couple of days off after Miami, I spent a little downtime with the family, and unfortunately what happened in Madrid happened but I felt I did the best I could and I felt playing in Strasbourg was the better option and I’m happy with the decision”.
The Canadian hasn’t played a tournament on clay in almost two years dating back to French Open in 2019 when she was injured and she stressed the importance of playing a warm up event before heading to the French capital.
“It makes a huge difference, I wanted to play a tournament on clay before the French Open, It’s been two years since I played on clay so let’s see what I can do”.
Andreescu is the top seed this week in Strasbourg and she will face a qualifier in the first round.
