The Greek world number five beat the Italian in straight sets to book a spot in Sundays final.
Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his incredible run this time beating the world number 19 Jannik Sinner of Italy 6-3, 6-3 firing 17 winners in a win that puts him into another final.
“Just being aggressive from my forehand side and serving well, these were the two things I did really well and coming to the net a few times helped, make the opponent think a little more and that I am capable of doing more than just hitting from the baseline”
The number two seed got off to a fast start holding serve and earning two early breakpoints but the Italian managed to save both. At 2-2 it was the world number 19 who earned two chances to break winning an incredible rally and finishing the point with a superb passing shot.
The San Candido, Italy native would be denied on both chances by the world number five and the next game it was back and forth and this time it was the Italian saving the breakpoint.
At 4-3 it was the Greek who would get the breakthrough earning three breakpoints and breaking at love and he would serve out the first set.
The second set both players did a good job holding serve the first couple of games and once again it was the Italian who would earn the first breakpoints of the set but the world number five would save both.
At 2-2 the number two seed made the breakthrough once again breaking to take a 3-2 lead and at 5-3 with the world number 19 serving to stay in the match he faced two match points and it was the Greek world number five sealing the match.
After the match in his post-match press conference he told Ubitennis if winning Monte Carlo and Sunday final would be a huge boost of confidence for the remainder of the clay court season and the French Open.
“Well it’s important for me and I’m fighting for it, still a long way to go, that match will be probably last longer than the rest of the matches that I had to do, I’m talking mentally and I would say the final is a big thing in a tournament and obviously you want to walk away with the best memories in your head, playing in a final knowing that you have been able to put out your best performance and you have no regrets and that’s what I am fighting for tomorrow knowing that I pushed myself to the red zone and to the limits”
Tsitipas will either play Rafael Nadal or another Spaniard in Pablo Carreno Busta in Sunday big final looking to win his second straight title.
