The world number one has officially withdrawn from the Madrid Masters.
Novak Djokovic officially pulled out of the Mutua Madrid Open but didn’t give a specific reason why he pulled out. The tournament posted a tweet on their Twitter page confirming it.
Djokovic has won the event three times and last won it in 2019 when he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
Novak Djokovic most recently played at the innagural Serbian Open in Belgrade where he lost a three set marathon match to the Russian Aslan Karatsev.
The speculation is he decided to take the week off to recover and get ready for the next Masters event in Rome which begins on Sunday May 9th. The Serb then plans to play in Belgrade again in the week before Roland Garros, The Mutua Madrid main draw action begins tomorrow for the WTA players and on Monday 3rd of May for the ATP players.
