The Canadian is into the semi finals after a tight win vs his French opponent.

Denis Shapovalov is into the semi finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships being held at the Aviation Club after beating the Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. He hit 26 winners, fired 10 aces and won a perfect 8 for 8 at the net.

“A very tough match, Jeremy was serving and playing really well I thought and it was really tough, fast conditions over here so it was tough to get a feel on it but I am really happy I was able to conceal those breakpoints when I had the chances”

As he mentioned the match was a very tight affair and in the opening set neither blinked on serve until 5-5 when the Canadian would set up the first breakpoint of the match with an amazing forehand return winner.

He would earn the first break of the match the following point when he managed to get the Frenchman to send a ball long to take a 6-5 and would serve out the set to take it 7-5.

The second set was much of the same as both players weren’t giving any breathing room and again the first eight games of the second set went with serve and zero breakpoints.

At 4-4 once again the world number 12 earned a breakpoint and would once again get the crucial break as Chardy would hit one of his 15 unforced errors in the match to give the Toronto native a chance to serve it out.

He would do just that to set up a semi final matchup with either Lloyd Harris, who was having an incredible week, or Kei Nishikori who was on his way back up.

He gave Ubitennis his thoughts on his potential opponent and stressed both were extremely tough.

“Kei is a very experienced player, he’s been around for a long time super solid and tricky player to play against but he’s very smart and very quick across the court, and Lloyd I’ve been able to practice with him in Dubai actually a week and a half ago and he’s an up and coming player, he should be ranked higher than what he is right now, he’s very tough he’s got a great serve, great forehand, he likes to play big and go for it, both are going to be challenging matchups and I’m going to be ready to have tough matches either way”.
