On Tuesday it was the official media day at the Miami Open in the sunshine state with the main draw action starting on Wednesday it was the first chance for the media to talk to the star players looking to win another title.
Bianca Andreescu was up first and she answered a question and what she had been up since playing down under and missing the last three tournaments due to injury.
” It’s been productive she said at her zoom press conference, ” I’ve been working a lot on different aspects of things mentally, just reflecting on playing my first tournament back as well, obviously still working a lot physically and preventing a lot of things and just feeling good out there”.
She also spoke about how she is feeling ahead of the big tournament in Florida and if she has any goals or expectations.
“I’m feeling really good coming into this tournament and obviously every tournament I go into I want to win so that’s a goal but I want to focus more on the goal towards that and I want to enjoy my time on court giving all that I have and just trusting myself”.
She was asked by another Ubitennis reporter on her physical integrity and if it is in the back of her mind.
“I think that it’s going to get fixed, I don’t think there is anything really broken just going through things, gaining experience, this is technically my second year on tour so I don’t want to put a lot of pressure on myself on that area but I’m doing my best in preventing stuff and working in the gym so I do believe that things will be getting better”.
Andreescu spoke about the excitement of having the tournament back since it was cancelled last season due to the pandemic.
” Ya Miami is one of my favourite cities, I love the tournament, I did pretty well at it two years ago and overall it was a great experience and I am super excited that it could go on this year and I am super excited for this year”
She was even asked a question on her thoughts of the potential for the women’s game to change format from three sets to five.
” I’m good, I don’t want to play five sets, I’m good with three”
Andreescu enters the Miami draw as the number 8 seed and will benefit from a first round bye before facing the winner of Yaroslava Shvedova vs Tereza Martincova in the second round of the Miami Open.
