Twelve singles and four doubles matches will be held on a very busy Friday at the Murray River Open in Melbourne. Thursday’s matches have been cancelled after a hotel worker was tested positive to Covid-19 at a tournament quarantine hotel.
This means that Stan Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov, Felix Auger Aliassime and Nick Kyrgios are on double duty and will need to win two matches on Friday to continue their chase to the ATP 250 title.
World number 18 Stan Wawrinka will face Australia’s Alex Bolt before a possible quarter final clash against either Jeremy Chardy or Taylor Fritz. Wawrinka came back from one set down to beat Mikhail Kukushkin 4-6 6-3 6-1 in his first match at this tournament.
Grigor Dimitrov will take on Australia’s Alexei Popyrin. The winner of this match set up a quarter final against either James Duckworth or Corentin Moutet. Dimitrov won 27 of his 31 first serve points in his 6-3 6-3 win over Andrew Harris in the first round.
Felix Auger Aliassime will play against Egor Gerasimov before a possible clash against either Jiri Vesely or Ricardas Berankis. The Canadian player reached three ATP Tour finals in Rotterdam, Marseille and Cologne finishing runner-up each time in 2019 and scored 23 wins to 19 defeats. Australia’s Nick Kyrgios will square off against Borna Coric. The winner of this match will face either US Marcos Giron or Great Britain’s Dan Evans. Kyrgios fended off two set points in his three-set match against his competriot Harry Bourchier. EarlKyrgios rallied from one set down in his 3-6 6-4 6-2 in his first ATP Tour match since Acapulco last February.
