Felix Auger-Aliassime is into his seventh career ATP final after demolishing his French opponent Corretin Moutet 6-1, 6-2, in a one-way 60-minuite match.
A fast start for Felix
The Montreal native didn’t waste any time as he seemed to be in a mode to conserve energy despite playing very aggressive and a fast style of play. Meanwhile his French opponent seemed rattled from the start and there was an emotional reaction almost every time he lost a point.
At 2-1 the number three seed got his first break point off an unforced error from Moutet and would go on to get the early break and from there cruised to take the first set 6-1 in 25 minutes. The Frenchman was very frustrated with the way he was playing and even at one point got so angry he kicked and threw a towel holder to the ground.
The Canadian finishes strong
Auger-Aliassime didn’t take his foot off the gas in the second set and was determined to finish with a flourish and book his spot in the final. At 2-1 there was a very long service game for the Canadian who faced a breakpoint but managed to save it and after almost 10 minutes to hold.
The world No.21 had another chance to break at 2-2 earning two more break points off an untimely double fault from Moutet and broke by winning a superb point to go up 3-2. He would hold serve and once again go on the offensive earning three more break points and managed to break once again with a great winner down the line for a 5-2 lead.
Auger-Aliassime would serve out the match in style and book his spot in Sundays final where he will face Dan Evans who earlier in the day had no issues beating another Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-2, and 6-2.
Auger Aliassime spoke after the match about what he was pleased with in his win.
“ No everything went good on my side today again I served well a bit like last night, I’m doing well what’s in my control, I’m playing well, I’m feeling well, I’m healthy, we know there is a grand slam around the corner but I am trying to finish the week as good as I can and stay fit for next week as well”
He also spoke about his final against Dan Evans who he has never faced before and what needs to do to come out with a victory.
“Serve well, keep doing the things that I am doing well, be aggresive, be dominant and well see, he’s tough he had an impressive win today, he’s a tough opponent that can mix up the speed, change the rhythm and he’s tricky so I’ll try and be ready for a good battle”.
Auger Aliassime is currently 0-6 in ATP finals and will try to win his first ever singles title.
