Grigor Dimitrov is set to appoint a new member to his team within the coming days, according to various news reports in South America and Bulgaria.
The 29-year-old is set to embark upon a working relationship with Dante Bottini who is best known for his work with Kei Nishikori between 2010-2019. During that period Bottini helped the Japanese player win 12 ATP titles and reach a career high of fourth in the rankings five years ago. Since then ending of their partnership, the Argentine had been working with Nicolas Jarry who recently returned to action following a 11-month doping ban.
News of Dimitrov’s latest coaching appointment comes shortly after Jarry confirmed that he is no longer working with Bottini. In an Instagram post published on Tuesday he paid tribute to his former mentor.
“I wish you the best of luck in your new endeavour that is coming your way. It has been a very good and intense few months, in which I have learned a lot. I hope to tell you about my new team soon,” Jarry wrote.
According to Septimo Game, Bottini will travel this week to Monte Carlo where he will begin his preseason training with the Bulgarian. Furthermore, in his Instagram story he posted a picture of his plane tickets to Nice, which is near Monte Carlo, with the caption ‘here we go again.’
There is still no word on what will happen to Christian Groh, who joined Dimitrov’s team as coach at the end of 2019. On December 12th Tennis Now reported that Groh is also working with Marcos Giron and NCAA player Alexandr Cozbinov.
Dimitrov hasn’t won a title on the ATP Tour since his triumph at the 2017 ATP Finals. He is currently ranked 19th in the world and has won 18 out of 29 matches played this season. His best results of 2020 occurred in Acapulco and Antwerp, where he reached the semi-finals of both events. He also reached the fourth round of the French Open.
