Carla Suarez Navarro was diagnosed with Hodgkin limphoma revealed that she needed to go through six months of chemiotherapy. The 32-year-old Spanish player is showing great courage during this difficult period of her life and is back on the tennis court as she undergoes cancer treatment.
Suarez Navarro said in an interview to Spanish newspaper that she is feeling better.
“I feel quite well. When I have to go through chemiotherapy, I feel some pain but it’s bearable. I am relieved. My daily life is calm. When I undergo treatment I spend some days at home or go for a walk. I can do a normal life, but I have to be careful. Following the medical advice and taking steps with hope and optimism. Many thanks for the warm messages during the past days. ”, said Suarez Navarro.
Suarez Navarro continues following tennis.
“I watched the US Open, when I was at the hospital. I followed many matches. I appreciated that Garbine Muguruza dedicated her first round win to me. She is a very good friend. I have a good respect for her. I also watched the French Open and the ATP Finals in London”, said Suarez Navarro.
Suarez Navarro would like to make a come-back next year. “I want to end my career on a tennis court. I would dream to take part at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. I have to consider my situation day after day. I am trying to recover. I have a protected ranking. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I want to send a message of hope and optimism. I have to continue fighting. It’s a difficult path but I will be able to recover with a positive attitude”.
