Fifth seeds Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic beat Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-3 6-4 to reach the title match in the Doubles tournament at the London ATP Finals with a 3-1 win-loss record.
Koolhof and Mektic are aiming to win their first title as a team after finishing runner-up in Marseille and at the US Open.
In the opening set Koolhof and Mektic were not able to convert two break points in their first return game, but they earned two more break points at 4-3. Koohlof converted the first break point with a lob and sealed the first set in the ninth game with a forehand volley.
Koolhof and Mektic broke serve in the third game to take a 2-1 lead and won their next service games to secure their spot in the final with a love service hold.
Koolhof and Mektic set up a final against either Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury or Jurgen Melzer or Edouard Roger Vasselin. “We are reaching almost every goal this year so far. The first goal was to play here, then play our first Grand Slam final, qualify from the group and now we are in the final. So far it has been a dream week. One more to go tomorrow and we are ready to celebrate”, said Koolhof.
