Rafael Nadal’s uncle and forrmer coach Toni Nadal predicted a great future for Jannik Sinner, who won his first ATP title in Sofia last Saturday.
Sinner beat David Goffin and Alexander Zverev at Roland Garros en route to reaching his first quarter final at Grand Slam level before losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
“Jannik is a candidate to become world number 1 together with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Danil Medvedev. Sinner has everything to become one of the best players of the next generation. Against Zverev Sinner was on top the whole match in Paris. Zverev did not play at a very high level, but Sinner is a very good player”, said Toni Nadal to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport during a chat with the foreign correspondents in Spain.
Toni Nadal talked about Rafael Nadal’s ability of learning.
“I have always said that in life there is a special talent: the ability of learning. Hard and work make a player world number 1. What mattered was that Rafael fulfilled his potential. I would have never thought that he could win 20 Grand Slam titles. I am sure that I will no longer train such a great player like Rafa in the future, but I believe I can give something to the new generation of players I am training now”.
